Artifact 19 - Trump promises a crackdown on diversity initiatives. Fearful institutions are dialing them back already - The Guardian

Affirmative action policies, as described on Gendered Lives page 211, have lived a fraught existence. Of course, preferential treatment is an easy thing to get mad about, especially if you feel culturally removed from the reason for that preferential treatment. Sometimes, this anger is justified (namely, when it affects marginalized groups), and other times that anger is largely reactionary. It is no wonder then, that after such a massive conservative swing in the political leadership of America this election that these policies are under fire. It is a bit more of a wonder, and and unfortunate one at that, that institutions are complying even before the new administration takes power. Gender equity policies (and of course racial equity policies as well) at universities are incredibly important for encouraging an improved world with fewer scars of our discriminatory path—a path which, unfortunately, it seems will get to carve out at least a few more scars before being put to rest.
